Flag and Coat of Arms at municipal web site: "Las letras “LU” centradas, con el color negro, expresan la esperanza de todos los que quieren al Municipio de La Unión y consiguen algo bueno para sus hijos y el progreso. Las palabras “Trabajo y Justicia” consolidan la gloria de sus habitantes, cumpliendo estas dos grandes virtudes. El color blanco significa la paz y la pureza y el verde para resaltar la esperanza y que sea el distintivo de la naturaleza de los habitantes de La Unión. El color amarillo de estos símbolos, ofrece la luz que guía por el buen camino. El sol, es el reflector creado por Dios, da luz para toda la tierra. Las dos franjas blancas representan la pureza de las familias, sus costumbres y buenos modales."
