"La barra roja simboliza la nobleza y vertical heroismo de los habitantes de nuestro municipio, como integrante de la raza santandereana. El libro abierto representa la mayor riqueza del hombre, la educación. sobre el libro una hoja o penca de fique que hace de lápiz, lo cual denota para el habitante de esta región, el recurso básico para su sustento. El verde representa el suelo fértil, esperanza de sus habitantes; quienes ayudándolo a labrar lo han convertido en su fuente de economía en la solución de sus necesidades. Dos franjas blancas como símbolo de la paz de nuestro municipio." (changed grammar for readability). Alternatively, in English:

The red bar symbolizes the nobility and heroic spirit of the inhabitants of our municipality, as members of the Santander race. The open book represents man's greatest wealth, education. Above the book is a tuft or stalk of fique [Furcraea cabuya] that serves as a pencil, which for the inhabitants of this region represents the basic resource for their livelihood. The green represents the fertile soil, the hope of its inhabitants, who by helping to cultivate it, have made it their source of income and the solution to their needs. Two white stripes symbolize the peace of our municipality.

Coat of Arms

The CoA image on our page, shows, flanking the crest, two depictions of the flag where the flyside part is white with a green square on it instead, in an overall less oblong ratio. This doesnâ€™t seem to be a simplification (which would match the puerile artwork of this CoA depiction), quite the opposite.

It should be noted the same coat of arms is a drawing; it may not necessarily be true to the versions used in real life. Although possible, it does not seem likely that this hypothetical flag is in use, though images online are sparse.
