Cumbitara is a municipality in the Nariño Department. The
flag of Cumbitara is horizontally divided with 12 alternating
green-white stripes, with a yellow canton that is charged with
stylized mountain ridge symbolizing the Andes.

"The yellow canton represents the local resources in gold,
while the three geometric triangle-shaped figures symbolize the
majesty of the Andes in the department of Nariño. The seven
green stripes represent the resources of the local flora and
fauna, while the six white stripes represent the nobleness and
mind transparency of the villagers."
There are actually three gold mines exploited in spite of a
greater potential. However, harsh winter conditions, lack of
modern technology (explosives) and better income yielded by
illicit crops do not encourage the villagers to exploit this
potential.
