The municipality of Támara was officially founded
on 6 August 1928, but the first Jesuit colonization started in
the early XVIIth century, in an area already settled by natives
for ages. By Decree 57 of 10 August 1999, the Departmental
Assembly of Casanare proclaimed Támara "Patrimonío
Histórico Cultural y Arquitectónico de Casanare"
(Historic, Cultural and Architectonic Heritage of Casanare). The
municipal website shows the flag and a more detailed rendition of
the arms.
