I must stress that this source is a poor indicator of the
actual proportions of the municipal flags. Some flags are just
annexed to the Coat of Arms in a square proportion. Two of these
flags were presented previously in a 2:1 proportion. Many
of these flags could be such. I think it will be wise to
place a note that indicates that the true proportions of these
flags could be 2:1 also.

"La bandera de La Merced está formada por dos bandas
horizontales, amarillo y verde respectivamente, de igual tamaño
y en forma rectangular.
Explicación:
El amarillo, que ocupa la banda superior, simboliza además del
sol que siempre es radiante, la riqueza, y la paz en todas sus
gentes. Representa además el sacrificio, compensado con la
variedad de productos naturales, fruto del trabajo consagrado.
El color verde, que ocupa la banda inferior de la bandera, nos da
a conocer la firme esperanza en el fruto; también representa la
fertilidad de las tierras municipales, donde la agricultura y la
ganadería son rubro básico en la economía local.
Esta bandera fue creada por una junta Cívica en el año de 1957,
encabezada por el educador Alfonso Botero C. "
