Yverdon-les-Bains commune (Vaud canton, Switzerland)

Until 1992 the official name of the commune was Yverdon (which it still is colloquially).

The name "Yverdon" comes from Celtic "Ebirodunum". The ending "-dunum" means fortification, castle or fencing.

This is the first flag of Yverdon, made after the regulations of 10 May 1741: "The flag has a big white cross, the flames red and black in the four quarters. The arms of the city are placed in the center on a shield." (see article from John Landry above).]
