This city was merged to Lachine in 2000. The flag was present on the city's website until then. Red is for the English element, azure, the French. The crown is for the British character of the city, the fleur de lys, its French character. The key is that of St. Peter, at the gates of Paradise that unifies the two nations. The motto reads AD LABOREM RECREARE, meaning 'to leisure while planning for work'. The city asked genealogist Gabriel Drouin to design a coat of arms. The genealogist presented them on January 28 1949. Beaudoin reports the arms on a white 2:3 field.
