Municipality

Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois: 45.24 km², 2,000 inhabitants

The municipality of Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois (locally known as Sabrevois; 2,095 inhabitants in 2014; 4,485 ha) is located 60 km south-east of Montreal.

The municipality's namesake is Clément-Charles Sabrevois de Bleury (1697-1771), Lieutenant and commander of Fort Chambly, who was granted a domain in 1733, and, again, in 1750. The domain was acquired on 2 August 1764 to Gabriel Christie and Moses Hazen. Gabriel's sun, Napier Christie, inherited the domain in 1799 and initiated the colonization in 1809.
The municipality of the parish of Sainte-Anne-de-Sabrevois was established in 1888.

White flag with coat of arms.
Olivier Touzeau, 15 May 2020

The coat of arms was designed by George Perks.
The shield, bordered in black, is of French style.
The chief azure features the symbols of Canada and Quebec: a maple leaf and a fleur-de-lis, the two.
The middle stripe is of "aqua" color with wavy lines symbolizing river Richelieu. Letters "S" or represents the municipality's namesake, Charles de Sabrevois.
The lower part of the shield, red, features two old plows, as a symbol of agriculture. Facing each other, the plows represent the "Valley of Plenty", a nickname coined by the founders of Canada. They also indicate that the municipality was formed as the merger of two parts of rural parishes.
The shield is supported by two maize plants, the region's main crop.

Azure is a symbol of joy and loyalty.
Or, the most precious metal, means justice, faith, force and shine.
Argent, the second metal used in heraldry, is a symbol of beauty, laugh and triumph.
Red is a symbol of nobleness, courage and valiance.
"Aqua" is a symbol of water.
