In eastern Nova Scotia I noticed a new flag I hadn't seen before at the municipal garbage dump in Guysborough County. The wind was blowing hard (and very cold...) as we drove by and I got a good, but very quick, look at the emblem on the seal, which showed a bull moose in black and white, nearly face-on, looking toward the hoist. Intrigued, I drove by the municipal office in Guysborough, and sure enough there was the flag flying below the Canadian flag, verifying the 1:2 ratio. The students in the van confirmed the wording around the seal (which I had told them to read). However, I am not 100% certain if there was anything else in the seal with the moose. Coming back, I tried to get a final look at the flag at the garbage dump, but it was snow/raining by then, and the flag was stuck firmly against the flagpole, and the seal could not be seen. Browsing the municipal website doesn't seem to give any hint of it.
Description: 1:2, vertically divided, mid-blue at the hoist, green at
the fly. Over all, a large yellow seal, on the centre a black profile
of a bull moose, face-on, and on a ring around it, the words
MUNICIPALITY OF THE DISTRICT OF GUYSBOROUGH. My guess would be in this
part of the province the green and blue symbolize woods and waters, the
two main sources of income and employment.
