The image is the "B.X.", Barnard's Express; a stagecoach that carried
goods and passengers before the arrival of the railway. The best-known
symbol of the town is its old fire hall: but the flag pole is in front of
the fire hall. That would seem redundant if the building itself appeared on
the flag.
