The Town of Pincher Creek, Alberta (population: 3,666) is located near
the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains in the Southwest corner
of this province. The story of how this town got its name goes
something like this in 1868 a pair of pinchers (tools used for
shoeing horses) were found left behind in a creek by a traveling group
of American gold prospectors from the State of Montana. The municipal
flag illustrates a single pincher tool which forms the letter "C" in
the word "creek". Also on the municipal flag is a simplified
illustration of one of the many large windmills located near the Town.
The windmill and dark green background on the flag serves to reinforce
this community's commitment to environmentalism and use of wind energy
for generating renewable power and "clean" electricity.
