Hines Creek, Alberta (population: 437) began as a fur trade settlement
in the mid-1800's and grew into a major commercial center in the
Northwestern section of the province. Today this community has
benefited from economic activity stemming from oil and gas exploration
as well as forestry operations in the area. Hines Creek is the "end of
steel" for the Canadian National Railway, hence the railroad track
illustrated on the municipal flag.
