Porto-Novo is the capital of Benin. It is a port located on an inlet of the Gulf of Guinea, in the south west of the country. It is the second largest city in Benin and seat of the national legislature. The largest city is Cotonou, which is the seat of government where most government buildings are located.
The flag of Porto-Novo has a white background with the city coat of arms in
colour in the centre. Above the Arms is the inscription: Republique du
Benin and below is Mairie de Porto-Novo. Within the Arms is the
inscription Ville de Porto-Novo and below is the city motto: DANS L'UNION, la
JUSTICE et la PAIX MARCHE.
