The municipality of Oud-Heverlee (10,861 inhabitants on 1 January 2007; 3,113 ha) is located on the linguistic border between French and Dutch, 5 km south of Leuven and close to the grounds of the Katholiek Universitet Leuven (KUL, the Dutch-speaking part of the Catholic University of Leuven). The municipality of Oud-Heverlee is made since 1976 of the former municipalities of Oud-Heverlee, Sint-Joris-Weert, Blanden, Haasrode and Vaalbeek.

Oud-Heverlee (3,500 inh.; 756 ha) is the most crowdy village of the municipality. The western border of the municipality with Korbeek-Dijle is made by the meandering Dijle. Oud-Heverlee has kept significant woody areas, such as the Heverlee and Kouter woods.
Blanden (2,400 inh.; 414 ha) is located between the woods of Heverlee and Meerdaal. The village was built along the Naamsesteenweg, a paved road to Namur set up in 1755, under the Austrian rule.
Haasrode (2,600 inh.; 1,291 ha) is the largest village of Oud-Heverlee, mostly covered by the Meerdaal wood.
Sint-Joris-Weert (1,800 inh., 395 ha) is the second smallest village of Oud-Heverlee.
Vaalbeek (400 inh.; 257 ha) is the smallest village of Oud-Heverlee. The village is locally known as 't Zenneke, a nickname related to the sandy soil of the village. The town hall of Oud-Heverlee is located on the central square of Vaalbeek.

Municipal flag of Oud-Heverlee

The municipal flag of Oud-Heverlee is vertically divided red-yellow-red (1:2:1) with the municipal coat of arms in the middle of the yellow stripe.
According to Gemeentewapens in België - Vlaanderen en Brussel, the flag and arms were adopted by the Municipal Council on 28 April 1988, confirmed by the Executive of Flanders on 5 October 1988 and published in the municipal gazette on 8 November 1989.

The municipal coat of arms of Oud-Heverlee is "Per pale or a chevron or two crosslets gules in chief a crescent of the same in base, or a saltire gules". The dexter part of these arms is the former coat of arms of Haasrode, while the sinister part is the former coat of arms of Vaalbeek. These arms belonged to the lords of Heverlee and were also used by the municipality of Heverlee, incorporated into Leuven in 1976.
