By resolution dated 11 February 1981, the state government granted the municipality of Wiesen the right
to bear the coat of arms described as follows:
"Shield divided upper part split between green and gold in gold a natural strawberry
lower part speckled [or spiked?]* with gold and green".
The coat of arms reflects the past and the present of Wiesen: The fruit bowl originates from the history of
the municipality, which was founded in the early 14th century in the Mattersburg area; it was used for
several centuries as the seal symbol of the settlement, which lived from fruit growing and fruit trading;
the strawberry refers to the fact that traditional fruit growing in Wiesen has focused on the production of
fine fruit in the last century. Finally, the speckled pattern refers to the great natural treasure that the
municipality possesses in the forests of the Rosaliengebirge mountains.
There is a second variant of the CoA, which has a yellow frame and the writing "Marktgemeinde [market
town] Wiesen" on the top. Both variants are used by the municipality and are also shown on the communal
website.
The official colours are green and yellow. (source: communal website)
