Flota Mercante del Estado. The State Merchant Fleet came into being in
1941 with the need to replace overseas tonnage that ceased to frequent
its ports as a result of WW2 with ships from sundry countries that
were stranded being acquired. In 1962 it was merged into the newly
formed Empresa Lineas Maritimas Argentinas.
