The municipality of Coronel Pringles (23,794 inhabitants in 2001
[23,570 in the town of Colonel Pringles]; 52,570 ha), founded on 24
September 1882 by Provincial Law No. 1497, is located 600 km south of
Buenos Aires City.
The town and municipality are named after Colonel Juan Pascual
Pringles (1795-1831). After having fought in Peru in the battles of
Junín (6 August 1824) and Ayacucho (9 December 1824), the latter
ending the spanish colonial rule in South America, Pringles went back
to Argentina. As a leader of the Argentine Unitarian Party, he was
involved in the Civil War and died in the battle of Chańaral de las
Ánimas (10 March 1831), broking his sword and jumping into Rio Quinto
to avoid surrendering.

On 6 March 2009, "La Voz del Pueblo" reported that the Civic Coalition
("Coalición Cívica", CC) had submitted a decree proposal for the
launching of the contest "Una bandera para el partido de Coronel
Pringles" (A flag for the Municipality of Coronel Pringles).
The municipality has already an emblem, shown on the municipal website.

"La Voz del Pueblo", 27 August 2009, reports the official launching of the contest, prescribed by Municipal Decree No. 551/09. The contest is open to all citizens of Coronel Pringles and people involved in the development of the town, aged at least 16. The submission deadline is 30 September 2009.
