Presentation of the Nation Party

The Nation Party (Millet Partisi - MP) was founded on 22 November 1992. Its chairman is Aykut Edibali. The party is rightist and Islamist. It participated several elections but could never get more than 1% of the votes.

The charter of the party says:

Article 3.
The party emblem is composed of three visual components. It is composed of a rising double-headed eagle with open wings and claws visible, an open book in the right corner and a crescent on it, as symbol; dark blue for background, white for eagle, book, crescent and strip behind writing, as color; the word MİLLET on below strip, as writing.

The double-headed eagle is a symbol of power, life and eternity in Seljukid art. However the symbol has its roots in Byztantium age and it is used by Orthodox Christians in Istanbul and Anatolia. The Pontus Greek State that was founded in Eastern coasts of Black Sea is claimed to have this figure on its flag. Some Turkish historians claim that there is no tie between Pontus and Greeks and some even claim that they are actually Turk. I've seen nationalists' websites citing from historians that say "Pontus Greeks used crescent and star as symbol". The party most probably ignored this tie and saw it as a Turkish symbol and used it on their flag. The book and crescent are more obvious. The book represents the Quran whereas the crescent represents the Islam.
