Cerovlje is a small community in central Istria few kilometers
north-east of Pazin, with about 1,800
inhabitants, only about 200 of them lives in the vilage of the
same name.
The name of the community refers to oak wood, 'cer' being the
archaic word for oak or specifically and as in the modern
language used as Croatian scientific name for the spieces Quercus
cerris.
The information of the coat of arms I received from Tomislav
Šipek, who sent me a photo of a road sign containing the
coat of arms, and on his description of the flags he saw in
Cerovlje in 2003.
I believe that such symbols are probably not confirmed by the
Ministry. So they are not entirely legal, but still used. In all
probablity, they would be replaced by a more heraldic design in
future, though it may not be a hurry to do that.
The coat of arms is a shield argent with an oak branch with two
leaves and two acorns proper. The shield is bordered yellow with
the black inscription in the chief reading CEROVLJE. There is a
blue and yellow "heraldic" ornament that extends into
green border in the base.
The flag is yellow, vertical in layout, with the coat of arms set
in the lower half. Probably the ratio is 1:2.
