Description

According to Heráldica Institucional de Canarias [las03], the new flag of Arona is a horizontal red over green over blue tricolour. The flag is used since perhaps 1992 (BOC xx/01/1992).

I spotted a horizontal red over green over blue tricolour with the coat of arms in the middle of the green stripe in the port area of Los Christianos, which belongs to the municipality of Arona, on 11 February 2010.

The coat of arms of the Municipality of Arona is a shield is divided per pale. The right side shows a golden (yellow) crozier with two silver (white) ribbons in a red field. The left side shows a tree with green leaves in a golden (yellow) field. The shield is topped by a crown.

The crozier is an attribute of St. Anthony Abad, the patron of Arona.
The tree is an Almácigo, which kind have a long tradition in the village. A very big example stands in the centre of the village.

The coat of arms was established by order of Consejería de Presidencia del Gobierno de Canarias on 25 November 1986, published in BOC on 28 November 1986.
