Coat of Arms

Description of the coat of arms of Adeje: the shield is divided per fess. On the base is a golden (yellow) rising sun with eight rays above two fessy wavy silver lines upon blue ground. Above all is a blue sky. The chief is divided per pale. On its right side are two golden (yellow) cups separated by a sinister bendy golden stick (banot) in a red field. On its left side is a silver (white) tower with brickwork and pinnacles also in a red field. The shield is topped by a coronet.

The stick, called añepa, is a symbol of power of the old Guanches. The bowls symbolize that Adeje was the capital of one of the most important mini-kingdoms, called "menceyatos" in prehispanic times. The tower is an image of the Casa Fuerte, the residence of the Lords of Adeje, who gained the title of marquess, which is also reflected by the coronet. The image on the base is symbolizing the importance of touristic activities at the shores of the municipality.
