The flag of El Valle was approved by the Municipal Council on 24 December 2007 and submitted on 14 January 2008 to the General Directorate of Local Administration, which confirmed it by Decree on 29 January 2008, published in the Andalusian official gazette (Boletín Oficial de la Junta de Andalucía, BOJA) No. 29 on 11 February 2008.
The relevant parts of the Decree are the following: "- Flag: Panel in proportions 3:2 (length to width) horizontally divided into twoequal stripes: on top, with the red Cross of the Order of Calatrava in the middle, on bottom, green with three white keys, in the same pattern as on the shield."
The Decree also corrects the Decree of the General Directorate of Local Administration of 30 November 2007, published in the BOJA No. 246 on 20 December 2004, in which the coat of arms was erroenously described as "divided per pale" ("partido") instead of "per fess" ("cortado"). Accordingly, the blazon should be "Per fess. 1. Azure a cross fleurdelisée gules of Calatrava. 2. Vert three keys argent. The shield surmounted by a Royal crown closed."
