The municipality of El Fresno (519 inhabitants in 2006; 1,263 ha; 1,075 m a.s.l.; municipal website) is located 9 km southsouthwest of Ávila. The population of the village remained stable all over the 20th century.
Traditional cattle-breeding is recalled by the "Las Toras" festival, celebrated on 16-17 January, for St. Anthony's Day, during which the children dress as bulls (toros).
