Description
Guben, situated on both banks of the river Neisse, was split into a German and a Polish part in 1945. The Polish part was named Gubin. Gubin is also the Sorb name for the city. From 1961-1990 the city had the title Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt Guben because Wilhelm Pieck, the first president of the German Democratic Republic, was born there. Guben has approximately 30,000 inhabitants and is situated in Spree-Neisse county. The flag is red-white, only rarely used with the arms.
